Lucky Luke

Lucky Luke Comics In Serbian(talicni Tom)

Lucky Luke is a Franco-Belgian comics series created by Morris, and over period written by René Goscinny. Set in the American Old West, it stars the titular character, Lucky Luke, the cowboy known to shoot faster than his shadow.

Along with The Adventures of Tintin and Asterix, Lucky Luke is one of the most popular and best-selling comic-book series in continental Europe, but unlike Tintin and Astérix, despite its popularity in Canada, only a handful of the series’ adventures have been translated into English.

Publication history
First appearance of Lucky Luke and Jolly Jumper in Arizona 1880 (1946)
First appearance of Lucky Luke and Jolly Jumper in Arizona 1880 (1946)

Both a tribute to the mythic Old West and an affectionate parody, the comics were drawn by the Belgian artist Morris who drew Lucky Luke from 1946 until his death in 2001. The first Lucky Luke adventure named Arizona 1880 appeared in the Almanach issue of the comics magazine Le Journal de Spirou on December 7, 1946. After several years of solitary work the strip, Morris began a collaboration with Rene Goscinny who became the series’ scenarist for a period that is considered the golden age of the series. This started with the story Des rails sur la prairie published on August 25, 1955 in Spirou. Ending a long run of serial publications in Spirou, the series shifted to Goscinny’s magazine Pilote in 1967 with the story Les cousins Dalton, subsequently leaving publisher Dupuis for Dargaud.

After the death of Goscinny in 1977, several scenarists have tried to fill the role of storyteller the Lucky Luke tradition, such as Vicq, Bob de Groot, Jean Léturgie and Lo Hartog Van Banda. In addition to continuing the series, Morris started the related spin-off series Rantanplan in 1987. At the 1993 Angoulême International Comics Festival, Lucky Luke was given an honorary exhibition.

After Morris’ death in 2001, French artist Achdé continued drawing new Lucky Luke stories in collaboration with writer Laurent Gerra.

Plot summary

Luke, drawing a gun faster than his shadow, fights crime and injustice, most often in the form of the bumbling Dalton brothers, Joe, William, Jack and Averell (each one being taller and dumber than the previous one). He rides Jolly Jumper, “the smartest horse in the world”. He is often seen with Rantanplan, “the stupidest dog in the universe”, whose name is a reference to Rin Tin Tin. A cigarette was constantly on Lucky Luke’s lips in the early stories, but in 1983, in reponse to the growing anti-smoking campaign, Morris replaced the cigarette with a piece of straw, which earned him recognition from the World Health Organization.

In the albums, Luke meets many factual Western figures like Calamity Jane, Billy the Kid, Judge Roy Bean and Jesse James’s gang, and takes part in historical endeavors such as guarding of Wells Fargo stagecoaches, the Pony Express, the building of the first transcontinental telegraph, and the Rush into the Unassigned Lands of Oklahoma.

At the end of each story, except the earliest, Lucky Luke rides off alone into the sunset, singing (in English) “I’m a poor lonesome cowboy, and a long way from home…”.

The Medical Basis Of Psychiatry, 3rd Edition (us$185)

The Medical Basis of Psychiatry, 3rd edition (US$185)
Stationary Office | Pages: 824 | 2008-05-16 | ISBN: 1588299171 | 18 MB

Psychiatry has emerged as a burgeoning scientific field with major advances in etiology and treatment of several disorders. Just as there was excitement in the anatomic advances that took place a hundred years ago when Emil Kraepelin and his collaborators took on the enormous task of classification of psychiatric disorders based on rational scientific thinking, new advances in genetics, biochemistry, neuroanatomy and pharmacotherapy of mental disorders have brought us even closer to a better understanding of complex disorders like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression and even autism. The major goal of the previous edition of this classic book was to update the busy clinician, psychiatric resident and medical student with the most up-to-date information on etiology, diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders. This goal remains the focus of the third edition of this book. In this updated and expanded edition, the reader is provided with the most contemporary information and literature supported by a close survey of the field. Several new chapters dealing with new concepts in biology and treatment of mental disorders have been added. This new edition of this classic title, with its focus on biologic and medical aspects of psychiatry, will continue to be of significant help to all interested in the scientific practice of psychiatry.

Genetic Nature/Culture: Anthropology and Science beyond the Two-Culture Divide
Genetic Nature/culture: Anthropology And Science Beyond The
ISBN 10 :0520237927
Author(s) :Alan Goodman (Editor), Deborah Heath (Editor), M.
Pages :328
Description:The so-called science wars pit science against culture, and nowhere is the struggle more contentious–or more fraught with paradox–than in the burgeoning realm of genetics. A constructive response, and a welcome intervention, this volume brings together biological and cultural anthropologists to conduct an interdisciplinary dialogue that provokes and instructs even as it bridges the science/culture divide.
Individual essays address issues raised by the science, politics, and history of race, evolution, and identity; genetically modified organisms and genetic diseases; gene work and ethics; and the boundary between humans and animals. The result is an entree to the complicated nexus of questions prompted by the power and importance of genetics and genetic thinking, and the dynamic connections linking culture, biology, nature, and technoscience. The volume offers critical perspectives on science and culture, with contributions that span disciplinary divisions and arguments grounded in both biological perspectives and cultural analysis. An invaluable resource and a provocative introduction to new research and thinking on the uses and study of genetics, Genetic Nature/Culture is a model of fruitful dialogue, presenting the quandaries faced by scholars on both sides of the two-cultures debate.

Fundamental Electrical And Electronic Principles-3rd Ed

Elsevier Ltd. | ISBN: 978-0-7506-8737-9 | English | PDF | Pages:304 | Size: 3.1 MB

Fundamental Electrical and Electronic Principles covers the essential principles that form the foundations for electrical and electronic engineering courses. The coverage of this new edition has been carefully brought in line with the core unit Electrical and Electronic Principles of the 2007 BTEC National Engineering specification from Edexcel. As the book follows a logical topic progression rather than a particular syllabus, it is also suitable for other Level 3 students on vocational courses such as Vocational AS/A Level, City & Guilds courses and NVQs, as well as those taking foundation courses at pre-degree level including HNC/HND.

Each chapter starts with learning outcomes tied to the syllabus. All theory is explained in detail and backed up with numerous worked examples. Students can test their understanding with end of chapter assignment questions for which answers are provided. The book also includes suggested practical assignments and handy summaries of equations. In this new edition, the layout has been improved and colour has been added to make the book more accessible for students.

The textbook is supported with a free companion website featuring supplementary worked examples and additional chapters.
